Sunblaze Wing on SouCon MUSH is the Goldriders wing at Southern Weyr. Our Weyr, and Sunblaze Wing, is led by our Senior Weyrwoman, the rider of the Senior fertile gold, typically the eldest and most experienced goldrider. Our Senior Weyrwoman is assisted by our Retired Weyrwomen, who's golds are no longer fertile, and by our Junior Weyrwomen. Generally, there are between one and four other goldriders within our Weyr, but this generally depends on the cycle of the Red Star and the capacity of our Weyr, that is, if we need more dragons, we'll have more golds.

Our Senior Weyrwoman leads Sunblaze Wing during Threadfall, essentially acting as its Wingleader. She ensures that all new goldriders are trained to fly effectively within its ranks during Threadfall, and in this she may be assisted by our other Junior and Retired Weyrwomen. Training includes wind velocities, Threadfall patterns, weather variations, complete workings of Agenothree tanks, fighting formations for Wings, groundcrew instruction, how to know when a gold is about to clutch, how to conduct egg touchings, Weyr management, Headwoman and Steward liason. Basically, all about running a Weyr from the ground up!

Our Junior Weyrwomen have all the duties of Riders, which include Threadfall, but also assist our Weyrwoman in much the same way as our Weyrsecond assists the Weyrleader. During Threadfall they use flamethrowers while in flight, instead of firestone, often rumoured, but never proven, to render females sterile. The only time our goldriders aren’t expected to fly Threadfall is when their mature dragon rises and then takes to the sands with a clutch.

Sunblaze Wing backs up all the tactics of the fighting wings to flame Thread. Since our gold dragons do not digest firestone, our goldriders strap agenothree sprayer tanks to their backs, and use the wands to ignite the acid into flame to sear Thread. Our Queens' Wing is extremely effective in mopping up what Thread escapes the fighting wings, often performing daredevil flying to get to the deadly organism. In bad weather Sunblaze Wing does an invaluable job, the gold's being that much sturdier, stronger and steadier. Finally, after fall is over, members of Sunblaze check in with the various groundcrews and Holders, letting them know of any particular burrow that needs attention.

Sunblaze Wing flies in a modified inverted vee. Each Goldrider is responsible for covering an area to her front, left, right and above. When a Gold is gravid, or on the sands, then the wing is modified slightly to remove the central position. Sunblaze's Wingsecond brings up the rear ensuring that Thread that makes it through the wings is reported the groundcrews. In the event that the wing flies with chromatic dragons (those with pregnant riders), these riders cover the four quandrants of the wing, adding extra coverage.
